The vaccine will usually take 2 weeks to reach its maximum efficacy, and its effect would last for 1 year. With the new quadrivalent (4 strains) vaccine, there would be better coverage (as opposed to the conventional vaccine which only covers 3 strains) to further reduce the risks of contracting the viral infection.
Vaccination is strongly recommended in those with underlying pre-existing medical conditions such as diabetes, heart, kidney or lung diseases (ie. COPD/smoker’s lungs and asthma); as well as those above the age of 65 years old, pregnant women (at all stages of pregnancy) and the young.
